Recently Verizon has rolled out the official update for Motorola Droid RAZR CDMA, but the users updating have come across some problems like error in updating the firmware Over The Air(OTA). Before You Proceed–>>

  • Make sure your Verizon Motorola RAZR CDMA is running on ICS stock firmware. It doesn’t matter if your ROM is rooted or not.
  • This tutorial is intended for Verizon Motorola RAZR CDMA. Don’t try to attempt this tutorial on any other device as this may brick your device. We will not be held responsible for the same.
  • Backup all your personal information on your device.
    Use AppBak to backup all your apps.
    Use SMS Backup and Restore to backup messages.
    You can backup your contacts using Gmail .
  • Enable USB Debugging mode. Go to Options > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
  • Ensure your device battery is charged up to 80-85%.

  1. Initially, you need to download the OTA Update of Android 4.1.2 and save it to a convenient folder on your computer.
  2. This step is only for those whose device is rooted;
    • Download the OTA Root Keeper on your device.
    • Now open the downloaded application on your phone and tap on ” Protect Root “. Now click on ‘Temp Unroot’ in the OTA Rootkeeper option. This removes the Root before installing the new update. Now once you have unrooted your device, go to next step.
  3. Now connect your Motorola RAZR CDMA to your computer via USB cable.
  4. Now copy the file that you downloaded in step 1, to your external SD card.
  5. Now disconnect your phone from your PC and switch off your phone.
  6. Now you need to boot your device into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold, Volume Up + Volume Down + Power button Select Recovery when the screen powers ON and then you should see a green Android with a triangle. You need to press again ‘Volume up’ + ‘Volume down’ at the same time to boot the Stock Recovery.
  7. Now select wipe cache .
  8. Now select ” Install zip from external SD card ” and then select ” Choose zip from SD card ” and then find the OTA Update of Android 4.1.2 that you had copied to SD card in step 4.
  9. Now the installation will begin. Wait for the installation to complete.
  10. While the installation is going on, your phone will boot several times and finally the Official update will be installed on your Verizon Motorola RAZR CDMA.

An Unofficial port has been released for Motorola RAZR HD XT 926, and using the step by step instructions given below, you can easily update your phone to the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 .

This Rom is based on AOSP build, and has most of the functions working properly. Well, lets not wait and start with the tutorial.

  1. First you need to download the CyanogenMod 10.1 Custom Rom and save it to a convenient folder on your PC.
  2. Now download the Google Apps Package .
  3. Now connect your phone via USB cable, and copy both the files to your to your phone.
  4. Now turn off your phone and switch it ON. When you see the Motorola Splash Screen, select Safe Strap Recovery mode Option.
  5. In the Recovery menu, select the ” Backup ” option. This NANDROID backup is for your current Rom. Actually this acts as a restore point if at all anything goes wrong during the updation process.
  6. Now select the ‘Boot Options’ selection in SafeStrap recovery menu and then select the ‘ROM-Slot-1′ option. Now you need to change the ‘minimum data partition size’ to 1 GB.
    Note- Generally a size of 1 GB is enough to install this ROM. However, if you need to install more apps in future, then you can enter any size you want, depending on your phone’s memory.
  7. After you have finished with partitioning, select ” Home ” in SafeStrap and then go to the main menu of the recovery.
  8. Now select Install and browse to the CyanogenMod 10.1 Rom file that you copied in step3.
  9. Wait for the ROM to install. When the installation is finished, Install google apps package in the same way by following step 8.
  10. After you finish installing Google Apps Package, go back to main recovery menu and select ‘reboot system now’ to reboot your phone.
  11. You are all done to use the newly installed ROM and the whole amazing look and feel of Android 4.2.1 .

  2. Before you proceed, install ES File Explorer from play store.
  3. Now download the apk for SafeStrap Recovery.
  4. Now connect your phone to your PC using USB cable and copy the downloaded apk SafeStrap Recovery to your phone’s internal SD card.
  5. After the file transfer is complete, disconnect your phone.
  6. Now on your phone, Go to Settings -> S Security Menu and enable the ‘Installation from Unknown Sources’ option is enabled.

Good news for Motorola Droid Razr users. Now you can root your Motorola Droid Razr running on ICS 4.0.4 using this tutorial. This tutorial will work on Motorola Droid Razr XT 910, both CDMA and GSM. Credits goes to an xda-developer senior member hacker812c . This tutorial is for both (Windows and Linux ) users.

Before You Proceed–>>

  • This tutorial was tested on Motorola Droid RAZR ICS 4.0.4 both CDMA and GSM . As well as for ICS Brazil and other ICS leaked versions, ICS China with Android 4.0.3 and 4.0.4. We strongly recommend you to try only on these versions.
  • Make sure you back up all your data on phone. This tutorial may wipe all your data on phone including the contacts, messages call logs etc.
  • See if the connection to your device with your computer is proper.
  • Enable USB Debugging mode. Go to Options > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
  • Make sure your battery is charged with atleast 75% power.
  • This tutorial was tested in an environment different from yours. If Any damaged is caused to your phone, then we will not be responsible for it.

How To Root Motorola Droid RAZR

  1. First of all, you need to download su and debugfs .
  2. After you download both the files, save them on your computer.
  3. Now copy both the files, on your SD card of your phone.
  4. Open your Linux Terminal or Windows command prompt .
  5. Now you need to run all the commands given below. Remember that all commands will start after the symbol “#” .
    • adb shell
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # cd /sdcard
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # cp su /data/local/12m/
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # cp debugfs /data/local/12m/
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # cd /data/local/12m
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # chmod 755 su
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # chmod 755 debugfs
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # mv batch batch.bak
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # ln -s /dev/block/mmcblk1p20 batch
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # exit
    • adb reboot
  6. After the device reboots enter the command–>” adb wait-for-device shell
  7. After the Adb shell is loaded you will have to enter these lines:
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # cd /data/local/12m
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # rm batch
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # mv batch.bak batch
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # /data/local/12m/debugfs -w /dev/block/mmcblk1p20
  8. When you are at the ‘debugfs’ commands prompt you will need to enter the following code lines:
    • debugfs: # cd xbin
    • debugfs: # write /data/local/12m/su su
    • debugfs: # set_inode_field su mode 0104755
    • debugfs: # set_inode_field su uid 0
    • debugfs: # set_inode_field su gid 0
    • debugfs: # quit
    • shell@cdma_maserati:/ # cd /data/local/12m
