Samsung Galaxy S2 users are a type of cursed by samsung to give such an old OS version installed in their phone. How we here, are going to tell you detailed procedure on how to installed a latest jelly bean firmware in your smartphone. We are going to install an AOKP Rom which is probably popular for its enormous number of customization options. This Rom had some flaws in it’s early version. However they are now looked upon and fixed in the build 2 of AOKP Rom by the developers at XDA there. Credits for this tutorial are given to XDA-developer bajee11.

Before You Proceed–>>

  • You can update your Galaxy S2 to the latest AOKP Rom using this tutorial. Please note that this is not an official release of firmware and we are not responsible if it causes any damage to your device. Try this at your own risk.
  • Make sure you have Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9070 with you and not any other device. Since this tutorial is intended only for this model number, we are not sure if it will work for any other device.
  • Backup all the data on your device including messages,contacts and applications.
    Use AppBak to backup all your apps.
    Use SMS Backup and Restore to backup messages.
    You can backup your contacts using gmail .
  • Enable USB debugging on your handset. Go to Menu –> Settings–> Applications –> Development and check the “USB debugging” option.
  • Make sure your smartphone is charged with atleast 75% of power.

Remember–>>

  • If you are already running your Galaxy S2 on Android Jelly Bean 4.1 ROM or a CyanogenMod 10, then ignore the below points and start with the procedure.
  • You need to install the stock Android 4.0.3 XXLPQ firmware on your phone by following the guide here.
  • You need to also install Clockworkmod (CWM) recovery on XXLPQ firmware by following the guide here.

How To Upgrade Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G To Jelly Bean 4.1

  1. Download the latest AOKP firmware and save it on your PC in a convenient folder.
  2. Now download the Google Apps package and just save it in a convenient folder on your PC. Don’t extract it.
  3. Now copy both the files to your phone’s SD card. It is recommended that you copy these files in the root folder of your SD card.
  4. Now switch off your phone and boot in recovery mode. You can boot your device in recovery mode by pressing and holding together Volume UP ‘ + ‘ Home ‘ + ‘ Power buttons and when you see the recovery mode screen, release these buttons.
    Note- Use volume keys to navigate through menu and Power key to select an option while you are in recovery mode.
  5. Now you need to make a NANDROID Backup of your Samsung Galaxy S2. Go to ‘ Backup and Restore ‘ and select ‘ Backup ‘.
  6. Now select ‘ Wipe data/Factory reset and confirm on the next screen by pressing power button.
  7. Now select ‘ Wipe cache ‘ and confirm by pressing power button.
  8. Now select1 ‘ Advanced –> Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm by pressing power button .
  9. Then select ‘ Install ZIP From SD Card ‘ and then select Choose ZIP From SD Card and browse to the AOKP ROM zip file that you copied to your device’s SD card in step 3. Select the file and confirm by pressing power button. The installation will start.
  10. Once the installation is finished, install the google apps package by following step 9.
  11. When you finish installing google apps package, select Go back and select Reboot system now.
  12. Now your device will boot with the whole new Look and feel of Jelly Bean 4.1 .
