Samsung Galaxy W users are a bit unlucky since samsung will not take any further steps to update this phone to latest Android 4.1 or 4.2 OS. However we have come up with a very easy-to-follow tutorial to update your Samsung Galaxy W i8150 with Android 4.1 using SlimBean 3.1 Rom which is an abstract of AOSP and which brings most of the features of Android 4.1. Credits for this tutorial are given to those of developers at xda, who have contributed for the development of this Rom. This Rom has some amazing features. Except that the wi-fi tethering is not working in this Rom.

Before You Proceed–>>

  • This tutorial is intended only for Samsung Galaxy W with model number i8150. If you try this tutorial on any other variant of Galaxy W or any other device, you may end up bricking your device.
  • Since you need to connect your device to the computer make sure you have installed the USB drivers for Samsung Galaxy W or else you can Download Samsung Galaxy W USB drivers.
  • You need to root Galaxy W and have a Recovery image installed on your phone. If you don’t, then check How To Root Samsung Galaxy W I8150 Running On Android 2.3.6 Official Firmware .
  • Backup all your personal information on your device.
    Use AppBak to backup all your apps.
    Use SMS Backup and Restore to backup messages.
    You can backup your contacts using Gmail .
  • Enable USB Debugging mode. Go to Options > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
  • Ensure your phone battery is charged upto 80-85%.

How To Update Galaxy W i8150 To Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 | SlimBean 3.1 Rom

  1. First of all, you need to download SlimBean 3.1 Rom and Google apps package for your Galaxy W.
  2. Now connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
  3. Copy both the downloaded files to your phone’s SD card and now you can disconnect your phone from computer after you have finished copying the files.
  4. Now switch off your phone and boot in Recovery mode. You can boot your device in recovery mode by pressing and holding together Volume up +Home+ power buttons and then follow the navigation instructions on the screen. Select Bootloader and then go to Recovery.
    Note- Use volume keys to navigate through menu and Power key to select an option while you are in recovery mode.
  5. Now select ‘ Wipe data/Factory reset and confirm on the next screen by pressing power button.
  6. Now select ‘ Wipe cache ‘ and confirm by pressing power button.
  7. Now select ‘ Advanced –> Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm by pressing power button .
  8. Then select ‘ Flash ZIP From SD Card ‘ and then select Choose ZIP From SD Card and browse to the Slimbean Rom zip file that you copied to your device’s SD card in step 3. Select the file and confirm by pressing power button. The installation will start.
  9. Once the installation is finished, install the google apps package by following step 8.
  10. When you finish installing google apps package, select Go back and select Reboot system now.
  11. Now your device will boot with the whole new Look and feel of Jelly Bean 4.1.2 .

That’s all you had to do!! Your Galaxy W is now running on Android 4.1.2 !

          Clockworkmod recovery is a system software which lets you to install Custom Roms on your phone.

            See, every custom Rom has something to negotiate. No custom Rom can work 100% perfectly. However there are some stable custom Roms which are really very stable. You can try slim bean if you want.
