Now a days most of the High end android devices which comes with an internal storage of 1 GB or more are by default divided into two parts, that is the Phone’s internal storage which store the system files and system apps and Internal SD card which stores the app data and other heavy games.

Now that you can swap your Internal SD card with your External Memory card, you will obviously have a lot of space to store your data internally and will have more space to store a lot of HD games.

Before You Proceed–>>

  • This tutorial is intended for almost all Android devices. The devices are listed below at the end of this tutorial. More devices will be added later.
  • Before you proceed make sure that your device is rooted and you have a recovery image like ClockworkMod recovery installed on your device.
  • Make a backup of your data via ClockworkMod Recovery or any other recovery.
  • Enable USB Debugging mode. Go to Options > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
  • Charge your device battery with atleast 85% of power.

How To Swap Internal And External SD Card/Memory Card On Any Android Device

  1. Initially download the Root Explorer file manager from Google Play Store and install it on your device.
  2. Now copy all the data (every folder) from your Internal SD card to your External SD card.
  3. Now open the File manager that you downloaded in step 1 and browse to the location /system/etc and you will find a file named vold.fstab . Now rename this file to vold.fstab.bak .
  4. Now download the file from the links given below for your respective phone and copy it to your SD card.
  5. Now unzip the file using Root Explorer and copy the new vold.fstab file to /system/etc and change the permissions to rw-r–r– by long pressing on the file.
  6. Restart your device and enjoy!

You will find that your Internal SD card will reflect the statistics of your External SD card and vice versa.
